New Berlin Open-Concept Remodel
This New Berlin remodel transformed a closed-off and underutilized layout into a warm, open gathering space designed for everyday living and entertaining. By removing walls, reworking the kitchen layout, and adding custom pantry storage, a spacious island, and a built-in beverage area, GMH Construction created a more functional flow throughout the home. Rich green cabinetry, warm wood finishes, and thoughtful details, including hidden dog dish storage and a redesigned mudroom/laundry space, bring personality, comfort, and practicality to every corner of the project.
What was once a series of separated spaces is now a cohesive and inviting main floor tailored to the needs of a busy family. The remodel centered around opening the kitchen to the former dining room, creating a more connected layout that improves traffic flow and encourages gathering. A large central island now anchors the kitchen, offering generous prep space, seating, and a natural place for family and guests to come together.
One of the standout features of the remodel is the dramatic wall of pantry storage and built-in cabinetry surrounding the refrigerator. By removing a walled-in pantry and rethinking the layout, the GMH team was able to provide significantly more storage while also creating a beautiful focal point within the kitchen. Floating shelves, textured tile, and a dedicated beverage station add warmth and functionality while maintaining a clean, modern feel.
The remodel also included thoughtful solutions to hidden structural challenges uncovered during construction. After opening the space, the team discovered additional support was needed for the second floor. GMH seamlessly incorporated the required support column into the cabinetry design, preserving the intended look while keeping the project moving forward smoothly. The result is a space that feels intentional, polished, and effortless.
Throughout the home, carefully selected finishes help tie every area together. Deep green cabinetry paired with warm stained wood tones and luxury vinyl plank flooring create a cozy yet elevated atmosphere. The adjacent powder room was refreshed with updated finishes that complement the kitchen, while the laundry and mudroom area was redesigned to improve everyday organization with added storage, a built-in bench, and a practical drop zone for a busy household.
Custom details throughout the project reflect the homeowners’ lifestyle and priorities. A built-in dog dish station keeps pet essentials tucked neatly out of the way, while the oversized island and open-concept design make the home far more functional for entertaining and family life.
This project is a great example of how strategic layout changes, thoughtful storage solutions, and cohesive design can completely transform the way a home feels and functions, without requiring a full addition or expansion.
